The first UK
convention of 1999 marked the premiere of the 9th Star Trek movie, "Insurrection"
and featured Patrick Stewart and Brent Spiner. Also appearing was
Jason Carter from Babylon 5. This was a nice, fairly easy going,
and above all SMALL convention from the excellent team at Wolf 359, and
there was a good atmosphere, even though there was some slight confusion
on the first morning over queues and admittance. A nice touch to
this con was the fact that early bookers got a signed photograph of Stewart
and Spiner; if you booked REALLY early and you got the pic personalised!
These took some time to arrive but were worth it. There were no official
signing sessions at the convention, although Jason Carter had a table set
up in the reception area, at which he sold copies of his poetry books and
selected pictures. He also willingly posed for photographs with con
attendees...
All guests spoke
on both days, and there were also talks by a number of other people from
the world of Trek comics and videos. Towards the end of tehe first
day the 100th episode of Voyager was shown on a big screen.
David Lucas,
the extremely talented caracaturist was present, and there was a small,
but well stocked dealer room.
Overall, one
of the best con's I've been to, with a friendly feel.
